What You Need to Know: Changes to Career Technical Education

Apr 18, 2015

The Ohio State legislature recently made several changes to career-technical education that will apply in 2015-2016. Below is one of many details.

Adopting a career advising policy

An important change put in place by the Ohio State Legislature for the 2015-2016 school year is that boards are now required to adopt a policy on career advising. The new policy needs to provide students with examples that connect their schoolwork to one or more career fields, train district employees on how to advise students on career opportunities, and prepare students for their transition from high school to their post-secondary destinations, among other things.

This new policy needs to be made available to students, parents, guardians, post-secondary institutions, and district residents. If your district has a website, the new career advising policy must be placed there, as well.
