Gerney, Scarpitti, Wyss & Higgins Join Firm

 

 

Day Ketterer is pleased to announce that, Blake R. Gerney, Mark J. Scarpitti, Kimberly K. Wyss and Danielle A. Higgins have recently joined the Firm. James M. Blake, Day Ketterer's Managing Partner said, "The expansion of our team in both Canton and Hudson will strategically position our Litigation, Business Law and Real Estate practice groups to provide our client's with more access to exceptional legal talent. We are very excited at the prospect of expanding the Firm's capabilities in these significant areas with the addition of these attorneys."

Blake R. Gerney joins the Firm as a Partner and brings over 16 years of legal experience to Day Ketterer, most recently at Oldham Kramer in Akron, Ohio. His practice focuses on real estate and construction law, corporate and business law, and zoning and land use. Mr. Gerney is one of only 22 Ohio State Bar Association- Certified Specialists in Business, Commercial and Industrial Real Property Law and is an appointed member of the OHSBA Real Property Specialization Board. He is a member of the American, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Akron Bar Associations. Mr. Gerney is the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee for the Akron Bar Association and is the current Vice President of The University of Akron School of Law Alumni Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Medina County United Way and Junior Achievement of Northeast Ohio. Mr. Gerney received his Bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University in 1990 and his Juris Doctorate from The University of Akron School of Law in 1995. Mr. Gerney's office is located at the Firm's Hudson location.

Mark J. Scarpitti, joining the Firm as a Member, has almost a decade of legal experience, most recently at Oldham Kramer in Akron, Ohio. Mr. Scarpitti's practice focuses on general litigation, including insurance and corporate defense and commercial litigation, family law and estate planning. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Scarpitti worked as a complex bodily injury claim specialist for the State Farm Insurance Group from 1995-2002. He is a member of the American, Ohio and Akron Bar Associations. Mr. Scarpitti received his Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1995 and his Juris Doctorate from The University of Akron School of Law in 2002. He is admitted to practice in the State of Ohio, and The United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Mr. Scarpitti's office is located at the Firm's downtown Canton location, with flexibility to practice at one of the Firm's other office locations in Hudson and Cleveland.

Kimberly K. Wyss, an experienced civil litigator with over 18 years of experience, joins the Firm as a Member. Ms. Wyss was most previously with the law firm of Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin in Akron, Ohio. Ms. Wyss' practice focuses on civil litigation including insurance defense. She has been involved in over a hundred jury trials that have gone to verdict. She is admitted to practice in the State of Ohio and The United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. She is a member of the American, Ohio, Akron and Stark County Bar Associations, as well as the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys. Ms. Wyss received her Bachelor's degree from The University of Akron in 1990 and her Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University Petit College of Law in 1993. Ms. Wyss' office is located at the Firm's downtown Canton location.

Danielle A. Higgins, an Associate with the Firm, rounds out the recent additions to Day Ketterer. Danielle received her Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve School of Law in 2011, where she served as Executive Contributing Editor of the Case Western Reserve Law Review. Ms. Higgins will practice in the areas of General Business Law, Real Estate Law and Healthcare Law. She is a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Stark County Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the State of Ohio. Prior to joining Day Ketterer, Ms. Higgins served as Project Director at the Institute for Health and Social Policy at the University of Akron and was Judicial Extern for the Honorable John R. Adams, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio. She received her Bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 2005. Ms. Higgins' office is located at the Firm's downtown Canton Location.
