Margaret E Ruf

Margaret (Marne) is a member attorney focusing in Health Care, Data Privacy, Technology, and Business law.  Marne provides guidance to her clients in navigating a wide range of regulatory compliance issues including matters related to the Stark Law and Anti-kickback Statute, EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), HIPPA, FDA, FCPA and other global compliance and corporate governance matters.  Marne’s experience also includes significant work in information security and intellectual property and trade secret protection, including reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial contracts, performing risk assessments and responding to breaches and other misappropriations of confidential and proprietary information, as well as licensing and regulatory filings, compliance training, and policy and procedure development. 

Prior to joining Day Ketterer, Marne was Corporate Counsel at OEConnection where she counseled management on strategies for compliance with the European Union’s GDPR Regulations and global employment law matters, including data retention and country-specific employment policies. She also developed training for the GDPR and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and UK Bribery Act 2010.  Marne started her career in employment litigation at James J. Schiller & Associates. She recently served as Senior Counsel at the Cleveland Heartlab where she provided counsel on commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, HR and litigation management in addition to assisting with corporate governance and financing transactions. 

Marne recently received her LL.M. in Corporate Compliance and Healthcare Law from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, where she is now working as an adjunct professor teaching a course on Food and Drug Law.

  • Developed Healthcare and HIPAA Compliance Programs for a Biotechnology Spin-Off of the Cleveland Clinic
  • Successfully defended several Non-Compete and Misappropriation of Trade Secret cases
  • Assisted with the acquisition of the Cleveland HeartLab by Quest Diagnostics
  • Drafted and negotiated a number of complex joint development, sponsored research, and licensing agreements
